Mystery Market Basket Student Culinology Competition

Drexel3

RCAYOU’RE INVITED!

The NY Metro Region of the Research Chefs Association is excited to announce that we’re hosting a “Mystery Market Basket Student Culinology Competition” at Drexel University on

Thursday, November 19, 2015.

Our goal is to bring in 6 teams of 3 students each from schools in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to be paired with a professional mentor and compete in timed culinary event.  It will be a 3 round (appetizer, entree, and dessert) cooking/plating competition with 10 mystery ingredients in the basket. Each team will have to use all 10 items in the Mystery Market Basket in their 3 courses and will be asked to showcase their creativity in culinary arts, knowledge of food science, fast turnarounds and plating ability, and use of the mystery ingredients in their dishes for judging.

We need your help!

  • Professional Members as Mentors – We are looking for industry professionals to work alongside a student team for the competition. This event will bring culinary students from across the east coast together to compete for a chance to win a scholarship toward their education. Mentors will be a resource to teams on the day of the competition. You’ll help teams by answering questions about the product, but you won’t be actually cooking for them.
  • Mystery Market Basket Items and SponsorshipsWe are asking companies to highlight their products by donating a “mystery ingredient” that will be used in this competition. Any and all ingredients/complete foods are welcome. With the donation of the 6 items (6 of the same item, which is 1/team) and an opportunity to introduce your new products/innovations to a large audience, we also ask for you to consider making a monetary donation toward the winning team’s scholarship. 100% of the money collected for companies participating in the Mystery Market Basket will go to the competition winners. We have opportunities at the following sponsor levels:

Platinum Sponsor – $500.00 or higher cash donation

Gold Sponsor – Any company who is donating product to the basket and money + $250.00
Silver Sponsor – Any company donating food as an hor d’ouevre while we watch the competition, or a Mystery Ingredient to the basket. We are looking for a total of 10 mystery items. The first ten companies responding will be included in the basket.
