West Hershey, Concept to Completion, 1985 – 2012

Craig Moyer, recently retired Director of Special Capital Projects for the Hershey Company, will speak on the rationale used to migrate the original Hershey Plant operations to the new West Hershey location and the technical hurdles which were faced to achieve this accomplishment.  This project was initiated in 1985 with the conceptual idea to migrate operations in the 100+ year old original Hershey factory.  The initial phase was completed in 1992 with the construction and commissioning of the West Hershey Plant to manufacture Hershey’s Milk Chocolate and finishing operations for conversion into moulded chocolate bars.  The second phase was completed in 2012 with the expansion of the West Hershey Plant, more than doubling the square footage of the finishing operations, and the closure of the original Hershey factory.

Speaker Bio:  Craig Moyer is a 1973 BS ChE graduate of Northeastern University, having worked at Hershey his entire career.  Craig held roles as Process Engineer, Manager and Director of Process Engineering, Director of Capital Programs, and Director of Special Capital Projects.  Craig’s accomplishments include process engineer on the effort to develop, design and construct the original 4 continuous peanut butter systems at the Reese Plant which are still in operation today;  lead process engineer on the design, construction and startup of Hershey’s grass roots facility in Stuarts Draft VA from 1979 – 1983; Project Manager to develop, design, construct and start up the original West Hershey facility from 1985 – 1994; Project Manager on the refurbishment of a Hershey acquisition in Sao Roque, Brazil; Project Director to design, construct and start up Hershey’s grass roots facility in Monterrey, Mexico; and Project Director to design, construct and start up the effort to expand the West Hershey facility to accept relocated processes from the original Hershey Plant.  Craig recently retired from the Hershey Company on December 1, 2012.
